The Book of Jeremiah follows the call of a young man in a difficult season in the life of God’s people. Called by God during a period of immense political instability, Jeremiah challenged the people to remain faithful to God. Jeremiah preached from 620 BCE through the reigns of the last five kings of Judah, up to the people’s exile from Jerusalem in 587 BCE. At that time, the Babylonians destroyed the city, burned the temple, and deported the city’s leading citizens. Jeremiah offers a sober assessment of the past, accompanied by a hopeful glimpse into the future. His message of hope and renewal in the midst of tumultuous times is an important word for God’s people today.
