  1. News : Patterns, Puzzles, Parts

    “Tell me, I forget. Show me, I remember. Involve me, I understand.”

    Westminster, please join us from April 14-21 in Menelas, Haiti, for a week of teaching, sharing, learning, and loving.

    WPC teaching teams (with translators) will work directly with children in classes for age 4 through 2nd grade. We’ll use curricula – Patterns, Puzzles, Parts – created by our own talented teachers at Westminster. With hands-on learning, we’ll cover manipulatives, science, math, art, and music. We need at least five more teachers or helpers to complete our team.

    Make a difference. Change your life. Give these kids more tools for success. Come with us!

    • Sign-up deadline is February 5
    • Creole classes begin the week of January 8
    • Supplies and donations will be collected in February and March
    • Classroom practice sessions will take place in March

  2. News : Haiti Education Mission Team

    In worship on Sunday, October 22, Pastor Leon noted that all of us are called, and the call changes through time. Right now we are looking for people called to work with the children in the classrooms of Haiti, children like this little girl we met on our latest visit.

    Some of Westminster’s best teachers are developing a hands-on curriculum for pre-school and first/second graders in the Haiti Outreach Ministries schools. We need others to travel to Haiti to experience one of the best weeks in your life. Education is the only way out of poverty for the people of Haiti and you can directly help these children be successful.

    The Haiti Education Mission Trip is scheduled for spring 2018. We need about 12 folks to be part of the team: to learn the materials, meet the Haitian teachers, lead the programs, and work directly with the children in the classrooms. If you are a teacher, former teacher, Church School teacher, Scout leader, or a willing assistant who loves children and loves learning, we invite you to be part of the team.

    Note: Youth below the age of 15 are not eligible to participate even with an accompanying parent. Speak to a pastor if scholarship assistance is required.


  3. News : Help with Testing at Githens & Hope Valley

    As the end of the year approaches, Githens Middle School and Hope Valley Elementary need our help to make sure End of Grade and End of Course test administration goes well. The schools need testing assistants, “proctors,” at the end of the month. See the dates and times below, and please contact those listed to volunteer.

  4. News : April 2017 Collection

    Thanks to all who contributed to our neighborhood schools, Githens Middle and Hope Valley Elementary, during the last collection. We were able to provide several much-needed coats and sweatshirts, and the Clorox wipes and tissues you donated were very much appreciated during flu season!

    This month, we are collecting supplies that will help kids keep reading and writing through the rest of the year and over the summer. Please place donations of the following in the yellow collection bin in April:

    • Books for 1st grade-8th grade
    • Journals
    • 3-inch binders
    • Colored pencils
    • Washable colored markers

  5. News : Box Tops for Hope Valley Elementary

    Looking for an easy way to help one of our local schools? Hope Valley Elementary’s school carnival is coming up
    and, in order to help make the carnival more accessible to all families at the school, the PTA will donate a $2 event ticket card to families in need for every 10 box tops they collect. You can find box tops on packaged foods like cereal and granola bars, as well as Ziploc bags and other household items.

    If you have box tops you’d like to donate to help defray the cost of these ticket cards, please place them in the basket on top of the yellow collection bin in the Mission Center by Wednesday, April 26. Contact: Rebecca Joyner (rebeccajoyner@parkerpoe.com)
