Monica Umstaedt Rossman has served as Westminster’s Minister of Music (organist/choir director) since 1994. She considers it a great privilege to play the organ and work with talented musicians who share their gifts through vocal and instrumental ensembles. These groups truly bring the music of the church to life.
Monica loves playing (whether solo or collaborating with other musicians), conducting, and teaching. She especially enjoys seeing musicians’ faces light up when they discover the transformative power of music.
At Westminster, music holds a respected place as a deeply spiritual component of worship, and for Monica, this is key. She says, “Our active church is made up of generous, talented people who praise God from the heart and who work hard—on so many levels—to be God’s hands in the world. Westminster’s music program reflects the church’s overall mission because, in addition to offering music study as a path to spiritual growth, our singers and instrumentalists model loving care for their fellow musicians as a natural extension of the work they do together. The steady, loving commitment of Westminster’s musicians is a priceless treasure indeed.”
