We are very excited to announce that Heather Ferguson will be joining the Westminster staff as our new Director of Christian Education! A native of Spartanburg, SC, Heather spent her elementary through high school years in Orangeburg, SC, growing up in the Baptist church. She worked in a local bakery as a teenager, and received a scholarship to Dunwoody Industrial Institute, a baking school in Minneapolis, MN.
While working for the Pillsbury Company, a friend invited Heather to attend a Presbyterian church. She began volunteering as a youth advisor soon after. Within two years, Heather left Pillsbury to become the Director of Youth Ministry at Valley Community Presbyterian Church in Golden Valley, MN. After three years, she returned to the south to pursue a theological education, completing an undergraduate program at Montreat-Anderson College and a master’s program at the Presbyterian School of Christian Education in Richmond, VA.
Upon graduation from PSCE, Heather received a call to Highland Presbyterian Church in Winston-Salem, NC, where she served as a generalist Christian educator for fifteen years. In the fall of 2008, she entered a doctoral program at Columbia Theological Seminary, and completed it in May 2012 with a Doctorate of Educational Ministry.
Heather has served as the Staff Associate for Education at University Presbyterian Church in Chapel Hill since 2010. Sensing a call to be in ministry in a smaller congregation, Heather applied for the DCE position at Westminster. She will have her first day with us on Sunday, December 1. It is with great joy that we welcome Heather into this community of faith!
