Stewardship season is, at its heart, an invitation. Throughout the month of October, we will be exploring Mark 10, the Gospel chapter from which our 2019 Stewardship Program draws its inspiration. The disciples say to us, “Take heart! Jesus is calling you.”
The Stewardship Committee found this message to be a powerful one as we reflected on the past year in the life of our beloved Westminster, in our own lives, and in the life of our nation as a whole. Amidst it all, Christ continues to call to us to come together to worship the God who created the world and sustains all things; to be bound together and to listen and support each other; and to study the stories of faith and be equipped to live that faith in all times and places.
Stewardship is an invitation to participate in the work of the Spirit at Westminster. Your pledges help us build and plan as we move forward into God’s future together. We need every single person, every single family, to make a commitment. Why? Because God is, in God’s own heart, One who gives. God created the universe in all its glory, God gave God’s own Son to the world in Jesus Christ, and God continues to give the Holy Spirit, who empowers, accompanies, and equips. God gives to us all over and over again. We are called, as followers of this same God, to be generous.
Christ is calling us to new opportunities – to ask new questions and expand our mission, to reach out and serve more. “Take Heart, Jesus is calling you.” How will we respond?
As we embark on this season, we are sealing our hearts with prayer. Join us in 31 days of prayer for Westminster as we listen for God’s call to us in the coming days. We are not praying for money or larger pledges, but that God might work God’s own purposes out through each of us.
Take Heart Sunday: October 28
October 28 is Take Heart Sunday. We ask everyone to make it a priority to be in worship that Sunday as we dedicate our pledges together to God at the end of the service.
