After more than two years of research and planning, the Session approved a strategic plan in June 2015. The October 19 newsletter provided an overview of the many initiatives that have arisen out of the strategic plan.
One of those initiatives was the formation of a Facilities Review Task Force to think about how our campus – which was enlarged last year with the purchase of five acres beside us – can best support our present ministry and the work that flows out of the strategic plan.
The task force spent ten months in consultation with Robert Sotolongo of DTW Architects. Robert was responsible for the design of the wings of the Mission Center, completed in 1997. The task force talked with groups and committees throughout the church, hearing about their needs, as well as problems with our present facility. They filtered this information in light of the strategic plan, trying to think about both who we are and who we believe God is calling us to be.
After extensive work, the task force presented a draft of a 20-year Facilities Master Plan to the Session in August. The plan attempts to think about what we need now and into the future with our facilities. In September, the Session approved a process to communicate with the congregation and think about potential consultants for a capital campaign in the next few years.
Now, we need your help! A communication team (Helen Harrison, Page Page, Dave Pottenger, Doug Wellemeyer, Chris Tuttle, Kara Pearce) has been assembled to coordinate sessions with the congregation for you to ask questions and provide feedback. What do you see? What questions do you have? What excites you? What might be improved? Every member’s voice is crucial in this next step of the process.
To that end, we invite you to attend “Envisioning Our Future: A Facilities Plan Feedback Session.” In this one-hour session, you will hear a brief presentation about the Facilities Master Plan, followed by an open floor for your questions, comments, and ideas. Sessions will be held in Room 105 on the following dates:
- Sunday, November 13, at 12:15pm
- Tuesday, November 15, at 7pm
- Sunday, November 20, at 12:15pm
- Thursday, December 8, at 1pm
- Wednesday, January 4, at 6:30pm in the Fellowship Hall. Sign up by January 2. Dinner at 5:45pm. Childcare available.
Sunday, January 8, at 12:15pmCancelled due to inclement weather
- Sunday, February 12, at 5:30pm
The communication team will bring a summary of your feedback to the January Session retreat. After reviewing this feedback, the next step will be engaging a capital campaign consultant to explore a feasibility study for a capital campaign.
