  1. Messages from Monica : Calling All Interested Singers!

It’s not too late to join the Chancel Choir for our very special 50th anniversary concert on Sunday, May 5, at 7pm, and we cordially invite you to participate.

Our interactive festival program will take place in the Sanctuary and will consist of beloved anthems and hymns celebrating Westminster’s heritage. We want to make sure our choir for that evening is a proud and fitting reflection of Westminster’s history, so we need lots of singers for this joyous musical celebration. Even if you don’t have time to join the choir on a regular basis, we encourage you to join us for this one very special occasion.

If you would like to sing with us, come for the first hour (7:30-8:30pm) of at least 2 or 3 of the remaining Thursday night choir rehearsals: April 4, April 11, April 18, and April 25. You choose the dates; no advance notice or reservations required. We’ll be delighted to welcome you! We rehearse in the beautiful Music Room on the 2nd floor of the Holderness Mission Center. Singing in this lovely acoustic is, all by itself, worth the time invested!

Note that everyone who sings the program with us is also expected to attend the dress rehearsal on Saturday, May 4, from 10am-12:30pm.

Have questions or need more information? Don’t hesitate to contact Monica Rossman, Minister of Music, at 919-489-4974, ext. 113 or monica@wpcdurham.org.

  4. Messages from Monica : Lovefeast Choir 2012

Lovefeast Choir needs you!  Whether or not you’re a member of the Chancel Choir, I mean you!  For our non-choir members, here’s a great opportunity to sing for a specific event with limited time commitment.  Keep reading for more details on our rehearsal schedule. . .

Lovefeast at Westminster (Sunday, December 2nd, 2012, at 5 p.m.) is a very special experience. We even have in-house musicians providing all of the wonderful music for this beloved service, which traditionally ushers in the Christmas season here at Westminster. Lovefeast Choir consists of approximately 20 singers drawn from Chancel Choir & the congregation/community as a whole. All are welcome! If you love to sing Christmas music, but don’t have time to be a regular member of the Chancel Choir during this busy time of year, here is your chance to join in the fun with a limited time commitment that produces great results.

Note that this choir rehearses independently of Chancel Choir on three separate occasions, making it easy for everyone to find a time that suits. Singers are encouraged to pick 2 of the 3 rehearsals (though you’re certainly welcome to attend all 3, & might find that most beneficial). Even if you can only join us for 1 of the 3 rehearsals, though, we encourage you to come & be part of the fun.

This year’s rehearsal schedule is as follows: (1) Saturday, November 10th, 1:15 to 2:15 p.m. in the music room (you’re encouraged to come early-12:30 p.m.-if you’d like to join us for lunch). (2) Sunday, November 18th, 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. in the music room (immediately following 11:00 worship; lunch is served prior to this rehearsal as well); (3) Thursday, November 29th, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary. On the day of Lovefeast, we’ll meet in the music room at 4 p.m. for a brief warm-up. Dress is Christmas apparel of your choice-the more reds, greens, silvers, & golds, the better!

Choir, here is the November schedule, which includes information on our Fall Choir Retreat, now set for Saturday morning, November 10th.  As you know, it was very difficult deciding on a retreat date this fall, since no clear winner emerged among the dates we considered.  If you find you cannot attend on November 10th, but would like to set up a time to work on our Advent Lessons & Carols program with me, please let me know.  Perhaps we can get a small group together for the morning of Saturday, Oct. 27th, or some other date that suits.  Where there’s a will, there’s a way!
