We are expanding our offerings for children to explore God’s gift of music! A NEW short-term elective called “Joyful Noise Music-Makers” will give children in Grades 1-4 the opportunity to explore chimes, bells, & other percussion instruments including boomwhackers!

This 7-week series begins October 3 from 9:30-10:00am and will conclude with an informal sharing time on Christ the King Sunday, November 21, at 10:00am.

The playground is available for parent-supervised play-time for siblings. Music-Makers Leaders are Janet Whitaker and Ellen Vogel. Sign up here!

  2. Articles & Resources : Accolyte Training Sept 26, 2021

    Sunday, September 26
9:45 – 10:45 am in the Acolyte Room behind the Sanctuary
    For children in Grades 3 – 6

The word “acolyte” comes from a Greek word akolouthos meaning “companion” or “one who helps.” An acolyte serves God and God’s people by reminding all of us of the presence of the Light of Christ with us in worship and wherever we go. All children in Grades 3 – 6 are invited to learn about and be trained in this important ministry next Sunday during the Church School hour. Following this training, children and their parents are invited to sign up to volunteer during Worship services.

  4. Articles & Resources : School Supply Drive for Neighborhood Students

We need your help! The Neighborhood Missions Committee is collecting school supplies to support Hope Valley Elementary and Githens Middle School. The schools are very grateful for all donations. Githens recently learned their supply budget has been cut 40%. There are four easy ways to donate:

    • Purchase items on the list and put them in the yellow bin in the Mission Center reception area.
    • Write a check to WPC and write “Neighborhood Mission” in the memo line.
    • Donate online through myWPC using the “neighborhood mission donation” category.
    • Text WPCDURHAM PENCIL $20.00 to 73256 to give $20 to the Neighborhood Mission fund using your text messaging (just change the dollar amount to the amount you wish to give). Standard text messaging rates may apply.

Items needed:  Backpacks, composition notebooks, pocket folders, sleeves for Chromebooks, pencils, Lysol wipes, Kleenex, mechanical pencils, AAA batteries, post-it-notes, masking tape, scotch tape, crayons, glue sticks, and gift cards. Additional school items are welcome.

Please make all donations by Sunday, August 15. Thank you for helping make the start of the school year a little brighter for these students!

  5. Articles & Resources : Worship Volunteers Needed for Fall 2021

Fall 2021 Worship Volunteers Needed – Many Opportunities to Serve

WPC staff and worship leadership are deep into fall planning and need your help – It takes a lot of volunteers to make worship happen each Sunday! Please visit our online sign-up to check out all the ways you can serve your church on Sunday mornings. We’ve grouped the volunteer needs by worship dates (rather than by role) to help you find multiple ways you can serve and maybe also partner with friends and/or family members to serve together. We are especially in need of sound technicians and live stream technicians for our newly expanded Audio-Visual Team. Training is provided by experienced volunteers. Please contact Mark Hill if you are interested.
