Make the start of school brighter for students in need

Home 9 Opportunities to Serve 9 Make the start of school brighter for students in need

Did you know that more than 55% of students in Durham Public Schools qualify for free or reduced lunch? If a student cannot afford to pay for lunch, how can they buy the school supplies needed to have a successful school year? We need your help! The Local Missions Committee is collecting school supplies to support Hope Valley Elementary and Githens Middle School. The schools are very grateful for all donations. There are fours ways you can donate:

  • Purchase items on the list below and put them in the GREEN bin in the Mission Center.
  • Write a check to WPC and write “School Supply Drive” on the memo line.
  • Make a donation online. Select “Neighborhood Mission” from the drop-down list of funds and follow the prompts.
  • Text WPCDURHAM PENCIL + your donation amount to 73256 to give to the School Supply Drive fund using your text messaging. Standard text messaging rates may apply.

Items needed:  Backpacks, #2 pencils, 3×5 index cards, Post-it notes, Band-Aids, facial tissue, glue sticks, composition books, spiral notebooks, resealable bags, AA batteries, color markers, highlighters, dry erase markers, construction paper, crayons (24 pack), rulers, hand sanitizer, notebook paper, Lysol wipes, masking tape, pencil pouches, Target gift cards

Please make all donations by August 18, so we can deliver the supplies before school starts. Thank you for helping make the start of the school year a little brighter for these students!
