  1. Articles & Resources : 2020 All Church Retreat

Join your Westminster friends of all ages for a time of relaxation, fellowship, and exploration at our All Church Retreat, February 28 – March 1, at Montreat Conference Center.

We begin Friday evening with fun and games for everyone. Saturday includes intergenerational programming, plus plenty of free time for hiking, rock hopping, board games, or exploring Black Mountain. Topping off Saturday’s fun is a square-dance! We’ll close with worship for all ages on Sunday morning.

The cost is $85 per family, $40 per individual, plus lodging. We’ve reserved rooms at Assembly Inn, but they need to know ASAP how many we need.

Download the All Church Retreat flyer for details on lodging, meals, and more, including registration instructions. To reserve your spot, send your registration form with payment to the church office by January 26.

Challenging the Narrative: Desegregation, Disintegration, and Our Shared Destiny

with Brian McDonald, Author of Not the End, But the Beginning: The Impact of Race and Class on the History of Jordan High School, 1963-1988

Wednesday, January 15, 6:30pm, Music Room

Through this discussion, McDonald examines key events in history, placing them in a much larger, much-needed context. Emphasis is placed not only on the larger Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s but also on local history through the use of Charles E. Jordan High School as a case study for pitfalls and possibilities. McDonald suggests a new way forward.

Brian McDonald has been a teacher in the Social Studies department at Jordan High School for almost twenty years. He is also an adjunct professor in the education program at Duke University. Mr. McDonald is a frequent speaker on issues regarding race, class, poverty, education, teaching, and service. He has received numerous awards in education throughout his teaching career.
