    Come to Montreat! 

    All Church RetreatWe’ll have an intergenerational retreat October 2-4 in Montreat, NC, with fellowship, fun, quiet, play, and study while exploring the question, "Who is my neighbor?"

    There will be time for hiking, rock hopping, or exploring Black Mountain on Saturday afternoon, and we’ll have a group dinner and square dance Saturday evening. The retreat will finish with a casual worship on Sunday morning. Childcare will be available during our program/worship time. You can stay at Assembly Inn, the Montreat campground, or individual vacation homes.

    Registration deadline: Sunday, August 30

    Register and pay online at www.bit.ly/wpcACR15 or download the retreat brochure, complete the registration form in it, and return it with your check to the church office.

  2. News : School Supply Collection

    During the month of August, we will be collecting composition notebooks and reams of copy paper (white and color) for Githens Middle School and Hope Valley Elementary.

    The notebooks will be used in a new initiative for science and math at Githens. They need 700 notebooks for the students that are on free/reduced lunch. Copy paper is always needed so that important information can be distributed to students throughout the school year. 

    Please place any donations in the yellow collection bin in the Mission Center. 

    It’s also time to relink your Harris Teeter VIC cards. The cards need to be relinked to the school you wish to support each year. Harris Teeter gives back 1% of each purchase.  Relink cards to 3555 for Hope Valley Elementary or 2516 for Githens Middle.

  4. News : The Children of the Church Need YOU!

    It takes a village to raise a child, and the children and youth of this Westminster village need people like you to serve as Church School teachers this year.

    FAQs About Teaching Church School

    • When does Church School take place? From 9:45-10:45am beginning the Sunday after Labor Day through the Sunday before Memorial Day.
    • What if I can’t teach every Sunday? Church School teachers serve in teams of 4-6 people, with two or more teachers in a class each Sunday, so there is flexibility in the schedule.
    • Do I have to come up with a curriculum? Nope! The Christian Education Committee provides a theologically solid, teacher-friendly curriculum with lessons for each Sunday.
    • Is there anything to help me prepare for teaching? Teacher training sessions are offered throughout the year, and teachers also take a Child & Youth Protection Policy training prior to serving.

    Which classes need teachers?

    These are the current openings for teachers (approximate class size in parentheses):

    Church School

    • 2-3 Yr Olds (8-12): 3 teachers needed
    • 4 Yr Olds- K (16): 1 teacher needed
    • 1st Grade (12): 2 teachers needed
    • 2nd Grade (9): 4 teachers needed
    • 3rd Grade (9): 3 teachers needed
    • 4th Grade (12): 3 teachers needed
    • 5th Grade (6): 3 teachers needed
    • 6th-7th Grade (19): 4 teachers needed
    • Senior High (10-15): 4 teachers needed

    Come to Room 105 after worship on Sunday, August 9, to learn where we are in the strategic planning process and have your questions about the next steps answered. An additional info session will be held at 6pm on Wednesday, August 26.
