Picking CottonThe Surprising Wideness of Mercy in the Midst of Forgiveness
A young female college student’s life was completely derailed by a violent sexual assault. The man accused of the assault was arrested and sentenced to prison. After 11 years behind bars, DNA evidence proved the man innocent. A face-to-face meeting of these two individuals led to an unexpected and surprising mercy. The results… reconciliation and eventual unlikely friendship between Jennifer Thompson and Ronald Cotton. Together they wrote the award winning book, Picking Cotton, and have travelled nationwide sharing their story and fighting on behalf of the wrongly accused. Jennifer Thompson will join us this morning to share her story and her path through the wideness of mercy.

This past April, Jennifer received the Innocence Network’s Champion of Justice Award in Portland, Oregon. In July Jennifer received the Champion of Justice award at the 7th annual award luncheon from the Mid Atlantic Innocence Project, in Washington DC. This month Jennifer and Ronald will receive the Beacon of Justice Award from the Oklahoma Innocence Project.
