This summer, the Revised Common Lectionary walks us through important parts of the books of First and Second Samuel. These aren’t books we spend much time with, but they have much to offer.

First and Second Samuel address important and interesting questions about institutions and society, politics and leadership, and the inherent messiness of human relationships. And all of these questions are explored in the midst of a crucial period in the history of the people, as power is consolidated and the formal foundation of their society is built. How is God at work in all of this? Who does God call us to be together?

We invite you to read ahead and spend some time with the Scriptures we’ll focus on from Samuel as you prepare for worship.
