Over the years, the Christian Education (CE) Committee has functioned as an umbrella of sorts, keeping watch over ministries with children, youth, and adults. The growth of programs within these areas has led us to rethink how these distinct ministries function and report. Therefore, the Christian Education Committee is dividing into two distinct committees: Children and Youth Christian Education (CYCE) and Adult Christian Education (ACE).

Each month, the Christian Education Committee has met with an agenda filled with topics related to children and youth: teacher recruitment for Church School; overseeing Godly Play, we•form kids, and the Christmas pageant; nursery and the Child and Youth Protection Policy; planning for Rally Day, Christ the King Sunday activities, and Vacation Church School. This full agenda has not left enough time to oversee educational programming for adults. Youth Ministry (other than Sunday morning programming) will continue to be led by the Youth Council and Associate Pastor for Youth Ministry.

Educational ministries with adults, guided by the strategic planning goals, have sought to reach those not participating in Sunday morning educational opportunities. In order to access and monitor growth or changes in midweek educational opportunities, programs geared toward adults (Bible studies, book studies, and forums like Aperture) now fall under the responsibilities of the ACE Committee. In addition to these activities, all retreats will be overseen by the ACE Committee.

We believe that this committee structure will provide more efficient time and focus for all areas of Westminster’s educational ministries.
