Share Your Musical Gifts

As faithful Christians, we share a desire to praise and glorify God through the gift of music. Westminster’s music program is dedicated to excellence in the preparation and presentation of many types of sacred music as vital parts of the worship experience. The goal is to get each person involved – at some level – in making a joyful noise to the Lord. This does not necessarily mean singing in a choir or playing in one of our instrumental groups. For some, it may simply mean participating with joy and exuberance in our congregation’s wonderful tradition of hymn singing. For others, it may mean a full commitment to one or more of our musical ensembles.

We at Westminster Presbyterian Church are truly blessed to have such a diversity of talented people within our congregation. Thanks to all of you who are already sharing your musical gifts. To the many others who do not yet participate, you are invited to call Monica and make your talent and your willingness to share known. As God has so richly blessed us, let us give God the glory!

Adult Choirs

THE CHANCEL CHOIR, directed by Monica Rossman, provides anthems and service music for 11:00 a.m. Sunday worship on a weekly basis from September through May, as well as for other special worship services throughout the year. This choir also presents two concerts annually. Our choral concerts – a Christmas program in December and a Spring program, often featuring a choral setting of the Requiem – are performed with a variety of instrumental combinations.

The Chancel Choir sings a wide variety of choral literature, from early music to contemporary styles, offering music to suit every taste. Rehearsals are held in Westminster’s beautifully resonant and spacious Music Room on Thursday evenings, 7:30 – 9:00 p.m., and on Sunday mornings at 10:00 a.m., with occasional extra rehearsals and choral retreats as announced.

Attendance policy is flexible; open to new members at any time. If you need childcare, please contact Monica.

The Summer Choir, directed by Monica Rossman, provides music for 11:00 a.m. Sunday worship services from June through August. Rehearsals are held on Sunday mornings at 10:00 a.m. Music chosen for this choir is of high-quality, but simple enough to be learned during the brief pre-service rehearsal time. This is a very flexible group, open to everyone – singers should feel free to join in whenever they are in town during the summer.

Children’s Choir Program

Junior Choir (1-st through 6-thGrades)

From 5:15 – 6:15 p.m. on Wednesdays -- immediately following the MP2 program -- these young people enjoy age-appropriate music instruction in a nurturing environment. Children in these grades are capable of taking in a wide variety of musical material, are quick to learn, and will probably be comfortable participating in worship on a fairly regular basis. In addition to learning anthems for use in worship, the children are exposed to our rich tradition of hymns and psalms, both old and new, as well as to musical parts of the liturgy.  (Contact Person: Monica Rossman [ 489-4974, ext. 113)

Handbell Choir

Westminster Handbell Choir, directed by Kathryn
Bunch, meets in the Music Room on Sundays from 4 - 5 p.m.

Westminster Brass Ensemble

The Westminster Brass Ensemble does not maintain a regular rehearsal schedule, but comes together periodically throughout the year to play at worship services (particularly Christmas Eve and Easter) and other church events.

Westminster Jazz Ensemble

This enthusiastic group of jazz buffs occasionally provides us with a lively change of pace for worship services and other events. The group does not have a regularly scheduled rehearsal time, but assembles as participants’ schedules allow. If you play an instrument or sing and all that jazz appeals to you, this may be the group for you!
