At the end of 2015, Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) and Genesis Home merged to form Families Moving Forward. Westminster has hosted IHN families here at the church for a week at a time for many years. Now the families are moving into newly renovated space downtown, and we will be going to their house to serve them.

Under the new model, Westminster will provide dinner, dinner hosts, and childcare on Monday and Tuesday nights during our week. Parents will attend house meetings and receive life skills training, while volunteers watch the children after dinner.

Our first week is the week of August 8! Sign up today for any of the following opportunities:

Monday, August 8

  • 5 dinner hosts to eat with the families from 5:30-6:30pm
  • 5 childcare volunteers for children after dinner from 6:30-8pm

Tuesday, August 9:

  • 2-3 volunteers to cook dinner for 12-17 people
  • 2-3 dinner hosts to eat with the families from 5:30-6:30pm
  • 5 childcare volunteers for children after dinner from 6:30-8pm

You can be a dinner host and a childcare volunteer, if you want to stay. Please contact Louise Holland (lholland5@yahoo.com) or Carol Mansfield (carol.anne.mansfield@gmail.com) if you are interested in helping or learning more.

Catherine Pleil, the Director of Partnerships and Programs at Families Moving Forward, will visit Westminster on July 24. If you’d like to learn about the volunteer opportunities there, including tutoring and mentoring, join us in the Parlor after the 10am service. An overview of volunteer opportunities with Families Moving Forward is available here.
