Technology Committee
A church audit noted that the critical functions of the church were on
PCs that were supported only by volunteers and that access to key
operational data (finance, etc.) was difficult for some staff members.
The audit recommendation was to install a server, move the key data to
it, provide automatic offsite backup for the server, and to allow staff
members shared access. The audit further recommended utilization of a
consultant to provide technical support (while still utilizing some
volunteers) for the “production” system and networks, and to consolidate
the reporting of network and IT costs to enable more conscious
management of the expense.
The session accepted the recommendations and the Technology Workgroup
was formed to plan and oversee the Server Project, to identify,
prioritize, and implement ongoing computing needs of the staff, and to
be responsible for oversight of the associated budget.
The server project initial phase is on schedule to be completed in the
first quarter 2008 and the “laundry list” of next items to implement
awaits! |
