Nominating Committee
The Nominating Committee is charged with the responsibility of
presenting a slate of candidates for the Session and Diaconate annually
and for conducting the election of those officers. It is composed of:
two members of the Session (the senior member being the chair), one
member of the Diaconate, and four at-large members of the congregation.
It is not a committee of the Session or Diaconate, as most committees
are, but rather a committee of the congregation. Hence, the at-large
members constitute a majority of this committee. The outgoing
Nominating Committee also presents a slate of candidates for the four
at-large seats of the succeeding Nominating Committee and for conducting
that election as well. Of course, in all elections by the congregation,
opportunity is given for nominations from the floor of persons not
included on the slate presented.
Whereas most committees serve for a church year, the Nominating
Committee serves for the calendar year. In 2007 the Nominating
Committee had the important added responsibility of nominating a slate
of candidates for the Pastor Nominating Committee (“PNC”) to search for
a new senior pastor. In order to understand the PNC process and the
size and qualifications of the committee members, the chair of the
Nominating Committee had several meetings with the Interim Senior
Pastor, the Clerk of Session, and the Executive Presbyter.
In fulfillment of these responsibilities, in 2009 the Nominating
Committee accomplished the following:

Collected and published to the congregation biographical sketches of all
nominees in advance of the various elections.

reflecting the congregation’s agreement that all of the candidates were
well suited for the offices to which they were nominated. |
