Congregational Care Committee

The full committee meets 2-4 times per year to ensure that
the needs of the congregation are being met.

Care needs can be pursued via in person or telephone
contact, or green pew cards. Generally, members of the
congregation alert the church about a need in their own
families or in another members’ family. Betty initiates care
for the family in need. Betty contacts the care leaders via
e-mail to present the needs of the case.

Care leaders may sign up in one of two ways. For some
leaders, it may be more convenient to select a month to be
on call. If one chooses this option, then the care leader
will handle cases for the month they have selected. If
there are several cases for this particular month, then other
committee members will assist. The second option is to be
available during months when there is not an assigned
care leader or to assist a care leader who has been
assigned to a month that has several cases.

Once a care leader is assigned, the care leader will contact
the member (or family) to assess the care needs. Then
care leaders call congregational volunteers to meet the
needs of the family. The care leader continues to monitor
the care and contacts volunteers to ensure that services
have been provided.

The Congregational Care Committee is pleased that Kay
Wellemeyer will be our congregation’s first parish nurse.
Her office will be located on the first floor. Currently there
are 10 members assigned to the Health Ministry Board
(Kay Wellemeyer, Linda Barnett, Julie Beckwith, Pat
Walchenbach, Neal Nichols, Jules Taylor, Carol Mansfield,
Faye Shaffer, Ralph Coonrad, and Mary Tatum). The
board will approve the job description on Feb. 3, 2008.

2007 was a busy year for the Congregational Care
Committee. 16 families received care through this
ministry
