Assimilation Committee

The main purpose and mission of the assimilation
committee is to nurture potential, new, and long
established members of all ages into the life of our church
for a vigorous, healthy church with active engagement of
all, involved together as a family in the work and fellowship
of the church.

• For Visitors:

o A representative from the assimilation
committee makes calls of welcome to all
visitors who leave a contact number in our
pew register.

• For New Members:

o The first step our congregation must take for
new members is to welcome them and to
help them feel included in the church family.
Assimilation has instituted New Member
Suppers on the first Sunday after all have
joined the church. These dinners include
all new members and other church
members who are of similar age or interest.

• For New Members, Potential Members and
Established Members:

o The assimilation committee has overseen
the development of an updated web-sight
that provides links to deeper information
about the workings of our church.

o A new Time and Talent Pledge was
undertaken at the same time as the 2007
Stewardship Campaign. Our mission is to
connect old and new members to tasks for
which they have both time and talent. The
commitments range from small tasks to
larger commitments such as committees,
clubs and events. The time and talent
pledges have been entered into a user
friendly data base that is easily accessible
to chairs of committees who are looking for
help. All members of Assimilation worked
hard to complete this task

• A concerted effort was made in 2006 and 2007 to
establish an opportunity to meet after the 11:00 am
service for Coffee and Conversation in the Parlor.
We were hoping that this would provide a chance
for new and established members to meet, and for
new members to feel welcomed. For many
reasons we decided to discontinue this in the fall of
2007. We are still hosting Birthday Sunday Coffee
and Birthday Cake each month and hope that all
birthday celebrants will join us and celebrate with
each other.
