Fellowship Committee

Fellowship Committee

The Fellowship Committee works to promote fellowship within the
church. One of the main objectives of the committee is to help a
large church feel like a small church. The activities of this
committee include planning church receptions, covered dish suppers,
luncheons and special events for the church. Serving on the
Fellowship Committee is a rewarding way to get to know other members
    of Westminster. *

Global Missions Committee

The Global Missions Committee fosters awareness of and coordinates Westminster's
response to needs and concerns beyond the immediate Durham area.  We fulfill our mission
by raising awareness of denominational global mission efforts and by assisting in the
coordination of fundraising and publicity for global mission projects.  Since its creation in the
late 1990's, the committee has responded to requests for flood relief assistance in Hyde County,
has sponsored the Kiev Symphony Orchestra and Chorus's visits to Durham, and has assisted in
drawing the congregation's attention to AIDS relief work and education in Zambia.  The committee
provides ongoing support for missionaries in Kiev and Mexico.  Each year the committee sponsors
the Alternative Gift Giving Fair and Gift Sale on Christ the King Sunday.  The committee hopes to
make Global Missions Sunday an annual event as well.  The Committee meets monthly and
            welcomes new members.

Worship - Acolytes, Lectors, Music, Nursery, Ushers & Worship Committees

    Acolytes and Acolyte Guild

A branch of the Worship Committee, the Acolyte Guild members train and assist Acolytes to light the altar candles to begin worship and to extinguish candles to close worship. They light the tapers at the end and take the light of Christ out of the Church and into God’s world.

    Lectors

Lectors play a leadership role in the Sunday worship service at Westminster. Lectors lead the congregation in corporate acts of worship: the Call to Worship, the Confession, the Collect, and a Statement of Faith. They also perform one of the principal acts of every service – reading the Holy Scripture. Any member of Westminster can become a lector. Training, both written and in person, is provided. Serving as lector is an easy and rewarding way to participate in the Sunday worship.
