The Session of Westminster Presbyterian Church (WPC) convened for a stated meeting at 2:30 p.m. on 12 June 2005 in room 105 of the WPC Mission Center.  The Moderator, H. Holderness, was present and called the meeting to order and it was opened with a devotional and a prayer by Mary Pickard.

Associate Pastors B.Berghaus and P.Ransford were present.

Elders B.Chesnut, G.Green, D.Lanier, M. Pickard, D. Elvers, B.Nicoll, N. Gaddis, M.T.Peters, and D.Wellemeyer were present.  Elders-elect A. Denson and S. Landis were also present.

Elders B.Derr, C. Haynes, and F. Anton and Clerk D.Derr were absent and excused.

WPC staff member N.Rozak and B. Fletcher were present.

Elder M. Pickard was acting Clerk of Session for this meeting.

The Moderator declared a quorum present. 

MINUTES: 

The minutes of the stated meeting of the Session on 15 May 2005 were read, approved, and adopted as distributed. 

COMMUNICATIONS: 

Baptisms 

Motion: A motion authorizing the baptism of Collin Walker Enberg, son of Erik & Melissa Enberg, on June 12, 2005 was made, seconded and approved. 

OLD BUSINESS: 

A discussion about the Congregational Strategic Plan and Church Assessment which had just been presented at the Joint Meeting of the Session and the Diaconate took place.  It was noted that if we have this must trouble exciting the congregation to this assessment as we did the leadership today, it will be difficult to get the return of information that we need.  B. Nicoll noted that the next meeting of the Assessment Committee will be on July 10, 2005. 

Motion:  A motion to accept the Best Practices, Officers and Boards document (approved in principle at the May Session Meeting) with implementation of Committee recommendations with the new class of officers was made, seconded and approved. 

COMMISSION REPORTS: 

Fellowship: (D.Lanier/C.Haynes) No report 

Diaconate: (B.Berghaus) The minutes of the Diaconate meeting on May 2005 were distributed via the Session Packet mailing. 

Education: (M.T.Peters/N.Rozak) The minutes of the Christian Education Committee meeting of April 30, 2005 were distributed via the Session Packet mailing.  Vacation Bible School begins tomorrow at New Hope Camp and Conference Center with five churches and 260 registered. 

Inquirers Class:  (G.Green) Inquirers Class ended today and a new class will not begin until the fall. 

Seminarians: (G.Green) Tully Fletcher will go to seminary in the fall.  Marion Draffin is doing an internship next year. 

Global Missions: (F.Anton) It is noted that Global Missions Sunday will be August 17,  2005. 

Assimilation: (B.Derr)  No report.

Elder Education: (B.Nicoll) The town of Bethlehem has a new mayor who is a Roman Catholic.  The first woman rabbi has been named in Israel, Rabi Calman.

Worship: (B.Chesnut) Communion will be celebrated on Sunday July 3, 2005with one service at 11:00. Elder F. Anton is responsible.  The Worship Committee will meet in September. 

Sanctuary Guild:  (M.Pickard) No report. 

Youth Liaison:  (B.Nicoll) A camping trip over Memorial Day Weekend with the youth was very well received. 

Ways and Means: (D.Wellemeyer) The minutes of the Ways and Means Committee meeting on April 13, 2005 and financial statements for May, 2005 were distributed via the Session Packet mailing and key points in them were summarized.  A report from Jeff Sutton on the Cabin progress was also reviewed.  Final inspection of the first phase of the Cabin is expected next week.  Re-evaluation of Phase 2 will be undertaken this summer. 

STAFF REPORTS: 

B.Berghaus:  IHN just completed another successful week at our campus.  Her Mom is doing well on hospice.

B. Fletcher:  Her Sister and grand niece are visiting as well as Tully. 

N.Rozak: There is a hitch with Rally Day and the Musical but that will be worked out this week.  Thanked all for their support after the death of her brother last month. 

P.Ransford:  Has a busy summer planned with the Mexico Mission trip, two houses reserved for the youth at Montreat and the picnic at the Beicher's with the sixth graders invited. 

H.Holderness:  Having a great summer. 

CONCERNS AND CELEBRATIONS 

Celebration over the life of Patricia Urbaniak and sympathy for her family were expressed. 

Concerns for the continued medical conditions of B.Berghaus’mother, and Mickey Henriquez who is having a procedure tomorrow were expressed. 

The Session's current business, having been completed, the Moderator declared the meeting adjourned and it was closed with an adjourning prayer by G. Green at 3:30 p.m.
