The Session of Westminster Presbyterian Church (WPC) convened for a stated meeting at 5:00 p.m. on 17 September 2006 in room 105 of the Holderness Mission Center. The Moderator, Rev. Robert (Bob) Fields, was present and called the meeting to order and it was opened with a devotional and a prayer by J.Jones.
Associate Pastors B.Berghaus and P.Ransford were present.
Elders F.Anton, K.Bunch, B.Cunningham A.Denson, N.Gaddis, J.Graham, J.Jones, S.Landis, M.T.Peters and D.Wellemeyer were present. Elder S.Ruffing was absent and excused.
At the invitation of the Moderator, graduating Elders B.Derr, D.Elvers, C.Haynes and B.Nicoll of the Class of 2006 were present and the Moderator extended privileges of the floor to them.
WPC staff members B.Fletcher and N.Rozak were present.
Clerk of Session D.Derr was present.
The Moderator declared a quorum present.
The Moderator thanked the graduating Elders, B.Derr, D.Elvers, C.Haynes and B.Nicoll, for serving so faithfully. The Moderator welcomed the new Elders, K.Bunch, B.Cunningham and Sara Pottenger, to the Session.
MINUTES:
The minutes of the called meeting of the Session on September 5, 2006, the called meeting of the Session on September 10, 2006 and the called meeting of the Session on September 13, 2006 were distributed, read and adopted as reviewed.

August Community Shelter meal - August 22, 2006
C.Haynes reported 201 meals were served and the suggested contribution from each Elder is $35.00. Contributions should be identified for the August Community Shelter meal and delivered to B.Fletcher.

October 21, 2006 Presbytery Meeting
By common consent of the Session A.Denson and D.Wellemeyer are the WPC Commissioners to the New Hope Presbytery Meeting at First Presbyterian Church, Wilson, NC on October 21, 2006.
February 24, 2007 Presbytery Meeting
The WPC Worship Committee will be responsible for the Worship Service for this meeting.
COMMISSION AND OTHER REPORTS:
Ways and Means: (J.Graham/D.Wellemeyer) The minutes of the Ways and Means Committee meeting on August 9, 2006 and Financial Statements for August, 2006 were distributed via the Session Packet mailing and key points in them were summarized. Total revenues are 10% under budget and total expenses are 4% below budget. Dana Lange is Chair and Anthony Dilweg is Co-Chair of the Stewardship Committee. The Stewardship Campaign, “We Can”, will start on the first Sunday in October and Stewardship Sunday will be November 12, 2006. N.Gaddis, Chair of the Buildings Subcommittee, reported that the subcommittee is in the early stages of planning repairs to the sanctuary in 2007. The Session notes for the record that the Westminster Presbyterian Church Durham, North Carolina Personnel Policies and Procedures manual documents current practices.
Fellowship: (D.Wellemeyer) No report.
Global Missions: (F.Anton) The minutes of the Global Missions Committee meeting on September 6, 2006 were distributed and key points in them were summarized. A subcommittee of Eileen McAvoy, Dottie Bartholomay and F.Anton are working on logistics for Don Wehmeyer’s October visit to WPC.
Education/Kindergarten: (M.T.Peters/N.Rozak) Rally Day went very well. Midweek studies are well attended. Spiritual Enrichment will be lead by Rev. Anna Carter Florence on October 8, 2006. The committee will meet Tuesday.
Sanctuary Guild: (J.Jones) She is working on getting more people involved.
Youth Council: (S.Landis) Tonight will be the first Youth Group meeting of the new school year. The Session, by common consent, approves participation of the youth in an international mission trip for next summer.
Assimilation: (B.Derr). The Assimilation Committee will meet next Thursday.
Inquirers’ Class: (S.Pottenger) There are currently 7 Inquirers. The class is being lead by Sue McCaughan and met for the first time this morning.
Worship: (D.Elvers) Communion will be celebrated on October 1, 2006 with Elder responsibility as follows: (8:30) F.Anton; (11:00) N.Gaddis.
Motion: A motion approving Rev. Anna Carter Florence to preach the Word at the 8:30 and the 11:00 worship services on October 8, 2006 and Rev. for Don Wehmeyer to preach the Word at the 8:30 and the 11:00 worship services on October 21, 2006 was made, seconded and approved.
Interim Search Committee: (D.Elvers) No report.
Diaconate: (B.Berghaus) The Diaconate will be in retreat next Saturday and will be determining chair assignments.

P.Ransford reported that the Staff Retreat was time well spent.

N.Rozak: The Summer Musical was the best ever.
B.Berghaus: The whole feel of Rally Day was wonderful.
CONCERNS AND CELEBRATIONS:
Concerns over the medical conditions of Marcie Anders, Ben Brook’s mother, D.Derr’s brother Ed Derr, and Carol Elvers were expressed.
Joy over the birth of a third great grandchild to Norm and Hazel Gaddis was celebrated.
The Session's current business, having been completed, the Moderator declared the meeting adjourned and it was closed with a prayer by S.Landis at 6:15.
