JACK'S CORNER "A LETTER OF THANKS" I want to share with you a letter I received from Lisa Salzman, YO:Durham Steering Committee Chair. The letter is dated May 11, and while sent to me, is of course meant for Westminster Church. First, the formal part: On behalf of YO:Durham and as Chair of our Steering Committee, I wanted to thank you for your generous donation to YO:Durham this year. Our program thrives on the ability to bring diverse community interests together, and your funding represents critical congregational support. YO:Durham is concluding its first year at the end of this month; we are preparing for Graduation and our new class of students. Our first year has been a resounding success: all of our students are completing the year-long program; all have worked successfully in internships gaining valuable job experience, and all are staying in school with the intent to graduate high school and pursue either higher education or job skills training. We can say that these students have truly made a change in their lives, and thanks to YO:Durham and its supporters, are on the right track. At the end of the letter, Lisa wrote a hand-written note, which reads: Thank you, Jack, for the very generous Christmas offering from Westminster. This substantial gift is MUCH appreciated; we are very grateful for Westminster’s continued financial support and the volunteer leadership your congregants provide. Please let me know if I can ever provide information to you; I imagine Nancy and Chuck do an excellent job. Regards, Lisa. The "Nancy" and "Chuck" in the above paragraph are Nancy Safrit and Chuck Byrd, who provide great leadership to YO:Durham. Once again, WPC has demonstrated our love, care, and support in an ecumenical spirit for the "at risk" youth of this great city. A hearty thanks to everyone. |
