A Relentless Hope: Surviving the Storm of Teen Depression
Sunday, February 21-March 13
9:45-10:45am in the Youth Suite
Led by Dr. Kathleen Lapp
This year, we will read "A Relentless Hope: Surviving the Storm of Teen Depression" by Rev. Gary Nelson, who will be the keynote speaker at Faith Connections on Mental Illness’s 2016 Spring Conference. In the book, Rev. Nelson relates his son’s struggles with depression and anxiety during his teen years. The group will explore:
- the major role depression plays in the lives of many teens and their families
- what depression is like from the "inside" for the teen and how it might appear to those on the "outside" of the teen
- how a change in perspective is important for parents and others trying to live with and help the depressed teen
- interventions that are helpful for dealing with the emotional, cognitive, relational, biological, and spiritual dimensions of teen depression
The book discussion group will be led by Dr. Kathleen Lapp during the Church School hour over four Sundays. Books will be available in the Mission Center for $15 each after February 3. All are welcome!
